Is there life outside of the Earth? If so, what is it like?

“Numerically it seems more probable there is life outside of Earth than there isn’t. But, I do find it disconcerting that we’ve yet to come across any real signs of other intelligent life. I’d like to believe that there is. I think it would make more sense with my own personal theories about the nature of reality if we weren’t alone in this universe. Maybe we have come across other life, and that information just isn’t open to the public. That seems likely to me. Or maybe our look into space, even though it feels so very big for us, is still just too small.”

Is there life outside of Earth? If so, what is it like?

“Even though we’ve yet to see evidence of it, it makes the most sense that there is life on other planets. I can imagine that a lot of it – especially if the life exists on Earth-like planets – might be quite similar to ours. Carbon-based, structural bodies of increasing complexity that consume resources, likely reproduce in some way, and die. If there is intelligent life outside of Earth, one might wonder if their intelligence has far surpassed ours; whether they have manipulated their genomes/evolution to have altered the definition of life entirely. I also wonder if life can exist outside of Earth-like planets. What might life be like on a planet without water, with limited oxygen? Could it exist? Could there be silicon-based lifeforms, or even life-forms not consisting of matter at all? Am I allowed to create more questions out of your questions?”

Is there life outside of Earth?

“If there is life on Earth, then there is life outside of Earth. What is living and has sentience is not the only domain of Life. Sun is Life, Moon is Life, and so is the solar system and everything beyond. There is a conscious intelligence that runs everything in the universe. If not, the universe will collapse as everything will be happening at random. As to lifeforms outside of Earth, definitely yes. If we are just a tiny speck within the large cosmos, how can there not be other lifeforms?”

Is there life outside of Earth?

In the 14 billion year old Universe, humans have only existed for 200,000 years or so. That’s 1/70,000th of the Universe’s lifespan. There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone. If another species evolved along a similar trajectory as we have, but did so 10 million years ago, they could have already visited the Earth and we would have no idea. Life first emerged on Earth 4.5 billion years ago, leaving 9 billion years prior for life to evolve elsewhere and potentially even be brought here altogether.

Is there life outside of Earth?

Just as fish have evolved for the water and birds for the sky, the other life forms in the Universe will fit the niche of their environment. For all we know, there could be a species colonizing the Universe already, but we are just a remote island yet to be discovered. Regardless, like planting a garden, the seed of intelligence must already be there for life to exist and evolve. Other life forms are likely just the harvest of different seeds. The question is: who planted us all?

Is there life outside of Earth?

There is a dilemma with the search for extraterrestrial life. If we don’t find it, we will just have to live with the mystery of whether we are alone. If we do find other life out there, it shows that none has evolved enough to colonize the galaxy. If there is other life out there, it either hasn’t surpassed modern human technology or has been blocked by something farther along the path of evolution. Thus, finding aliens shows that we have a LONG way to go in understanding the Universe.
