If you could start a country from scratch, what would it be like?
“I live in the United States of America. With that in mind, my ideas are directly influenced by America’s political system and the ways I see improvement in it, but also knowledge of other countries’ political systems that work well. I’ve had the blueprints in my head for some time but they have never been written down yet. There is certainly lots that I forgot along the way that didn’t make it to this point. With that in mind, here’s my ideal government:…”

If you could create a country from scratch, what would it be like?
“I’d design a 100% electronic democracy where every issue in front of the people would be voted on electronically via a website. Every citizen would be required by law to vote in national elections and the majority opinions would bind legislatures on the issues, including the national budget, tax code and foreign/trade policy. Every law proposed by any legislator would have to have buy-in or co-sponsorship for 10% of the voting public before it could be opened up for consideration in the house/parliament. This should eliminate the ability of small special interests to shove/lobby self-serving tax breaks thru congress. I would make the will of the people more important than vetoes, filibusters and bills with so many amendments they can’t be read by the congress or people before the vote. If any law is ruled unconstitutional by our Supreme Court, the legislators who sponsored the bill would be immediately expelled from office and forbidden to ever run again. All sessions and subcommittee meetings would be public, taped and archived forever. I would have web cams in the Presidents office and all top cabinet officials so their work and conversations are visible too…”

If you could create a country from scratch, what would it be like?
“If I could create an ideal country from scratch, then I would want it to be an island, because those are harder to invade and easier to defend. I would want it to not be too far off the beaten path, however, because I would want to have the possibility of beneficial trading relationships with other countries. I would want it to be far enough away from the equator to have four distinct seasons, including a winter that is cold enough to kill off a good number of pests and pathogens. However, I would still want it close enough to the equator to have a good long growing season. I would also want it to sit astride strong and steady trade winds so that the development of wind power would be feasible. Somewhere around 45 degrees of latitude – probably North latitude, and probably in the middle of the Atlantic, would be ideal….”

If you could design a country from scratch, what would it be like?
“Union of the American Commune – The UAC is a country that comprises all of America plus some parts of Europe that have been occupied. The capital and largest city would be Washington D.C, New York, Brasilia or any city depending on who you ask. The country is made up of about 3 provinces: North America, comprising the United States, Canada and Mexico, Central America with all of Central America and South America comprising of the old countries of South America. Keep in mind, that these provinces are further divided into several states, with each state having its own constitution and anthem as well as its own motto….”

If you could create a country from scratch, what would it be like?
“New Canada – It is a country that my friend and I have been creating over the past couple of years. Goverment – The Executive Branch consists of a Prime Co-Chancellor and a Sub Co-Chancellor, who are mostly all-powerful. The Legislative Branch consists of about 4 people, 2 of which are the current Co-Chancellors, they are mostly useless, only used by the Co-Chancellors, when they are in dispute. There is also a large legal codex, which I, as the Prime Co-Chancellor, cannot find for my Sub Co-Chancellor wrote it and subsequently hid it. The government is part of 706, Inc., which has many departments, such as DAS, the Department of Astronautical Services, and the DRD, the Department of Redundacy Department, etcetera. 706’s, and New Canada’s, main product/export is slightly irradiated chocolate milk, with convenient radiation kits in the cap. We have a colonized space station, and a colony on the moon, both of which are self-sustaining….”
